Computer Science & Engineering Department
The Department of Computer Science
and Engineering was established in 1984 with a 4-year B.Tech. programme in
Computer Science, with an intake of 30 students. A 3-year Post
Graduate Program, Master of Computer Application, with an
intake of 60 students was introduced in 1994. Under IT task
force recommendations, Information Technology Department was
created in the year 2000, with an intake of 60 students. One
of the youngest, but among the most efficient departments, it
is reputed for producing the best quality software engineers
who serve leading firms and M.N.C.’s, not only in India but
also abroad. The students have an in-depth exposure to
computing environment consisting of state-of-the-art machines
in different laboratories.
The department has continuous interaction with the Industries in order to identify projects for students to work on and for their training & attachment so as to expose them to industry scenario. The department handles several projects, for example, in 1991; the IMPACT project was started under the Computer Science Department (along with Electronics Department) with the aim of developing manpower for Electronics and Computer Industries. Another major project is the manpower component of the Electronics Industry Development Project (E.I.D.P.), which is funded jointly by the World Bank, Swiss Development Corporation (S.D.C.), Department of Electronics and Government of India. The goal of the project is to upgrade the quality of education and training in the fields of Computer and Electronics Engineering. Another feather in its cap has been the award of I.S.O. 9002 Certification for implementing Quality System in technical education.
