The ‘Department of Chemical
Technology (Oil & Paint Technology)’, is the oldest department
of H.B.T.I. Kanpur, established in 1923.
The Department was founded with an aspiration for the development of high
quality scientific and engineering manpower for a broad grasp of the fundamental
principles of sciences and the scientific methods, deep understanding
of their area of specialization, innovative ability to solve new problems,
and the capacity to learn continually and interact with the multidisciplinary
groups. Above all, the students are trained to develop the capacity for
free and objective inquiry, courage and integrity, awareness and sensitivity
to the needs and aspirations of the society. Various programs are designed
to impart knowledge, and strengthen concepts and intellectual skills through
course work, seminars and project/ thesis work and cater to the needs
of industry, R&D organizations, and educational institutions.
Since its establishment in 1921 the Department of Chemical Technology
(Oil & Paint Technology) has made great strides in the past few decades.
The department maintains a close touch with other national & international
educational institutions & has accomplished several research &
development projects in collaboration with them. Currently HBTI, Kanpur
and University of Guelph, Canada are running an Indo-Canadian partnership
project jointly. One of the basic objectives of the project is to form
a long lasting working partnership between faculty members and institutions
in Canada and India. The final goal of the research project is to prepare
a decision making model for environmental risk management with general
reference to harmful household products and special reference to detergents.
The Head Office of Oil Technologists Association of India (OTAI) is also
functioning effectively at HBTI besides its zonal office (central zone).
Here at Oil & Paint Technology Dep’t. HBTI Kanpur, the students
are endowed with the inherent qualities of Excellence, Experience and
Perfection. The Oil Technology Department of HBTI has undoubtedly been
a center of excellence for learning.
It has fully equipped labs with modern apparatus as per the standards
of the AICTE. The labs have sufficient facilities to provide the students
with thorough practical as well as technical knowledge.
There is a close relationship between the faculty and the students. The
faculty regularly provides technical updates regarding the latest industrial
trends.
The Faculty of the Department, with the rich blend of Knowledge and experience,
has always proved its prominence in the field of technical education,
nurturing and grooming the young technologists into promising professionals
unmatched in their knowledge and perfection.
The Department has sculpted numerous engineers, who had proved their mettle
by becoming the souls and roots of various industries in the field of
research both country and abroad, and are repatriating credit and fame
to the department.
